Local History and Genealogy

PLEASE NOTE: Our Local History & Genealogy Room is currently undergoing renovations and is closed to the public. Records and books in that room are currently not accessible. Anticipated re-opening is early March 2026. Please call the number below for updates.

The Main Branch in Charlotte Court House has a local history and genealogy room, open to the public. In addition to many books about the history of Charlotte County and the surrounding area, there are also church and family histories, as well as copies of old maps and information about historic buildings in the area. The library also keeps old issues of The Charlotte Gazette and The Southside Messenger. If you have questions or need help with this part of our collection, please call 434-542-5247.
