Support the Library
We would love for you to volunteer with us! Whether you want to help on a regular basis or as needed, your time and talents are much appreciated. Volunteers help with a variety of tasks. Here are some examples of what we might need your help with:
- Helping with story time or other children’s programs
- Preparing supplies for children’s craft
- Making sure the books are in order on the shelves
- Helping researchers in the Local History & Genealogy Room
- Organizing books for the book sale
- Sorting, filing, or organizing items
- Dusting bookshelves
If you are interested in getting involved by volunteering, please contact the Main Library at 434-542-5247.
The Friends of Charlotte County Library is a non-profit organization supporting and advocating for the Charlotte County Public Library. They help with library programming, fundraising, and the book sale. In the past, the Friends have helped to fund Summer Reading, support special events, and provide a free book to every four-year-old in the county.
Joining the Friends is only $25/year, and the dues are tax-deductible.
For more information, contact the Friends at charlottecountyfriends@gmail.com
All library locations accept donations of gently used books, DVDs, and LP records. Items may be for any age group, and we accept both fiction and non-fiction. We also accept both hardcover and paperback books. We will not accept the following:
- Outdated formats like VHS tapes, CDs, CD-ROMs, etc.
- Magazines, newspapers, or journals
- Reference books like encyclopedias or dictionaries
- Textbooks older than 10 years
- Computer-related or technology-related books older than 3 years
- Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) or review copies of books
- Any item that is wet, moldy, dirty, smelly, torn, has water damage, is too damaged to sell, or has evidence of insect or animal damage
The limit is two paper grocery bags or two bankers’ boxes at a time. If you wish to donate more than this, please schedule a gradual drop-off plan with library staff or contact the Main Library at 434-542-5247 about a large donation. Please be aware your boxes or bags will not be returned to you. Once these items are donated, they become property of the Friends of Charlotte County Library.
The library is always interested in donations of art or craft supplies to be used in library programming. We are also interested in donations to our Seed Library. We accept both fruit and vegetable seeds if they are clean and labeled.
If you have something that may benefit our Local History & Genealogy Room, please contact us.
If you would like to donate something else to the library that is not listed here, please call us to discuss. All donation inquiries can be directed to the Main Library in Charlotte Court House. Please call 434-542-5247.
